


Beccles Lido – a riverside landmark saved and restored by BLL
Located off Puddingmoor by the River Waveney in the historic market town of Beccles, Beccles Lido is an award-winning heated outdoor swimming facility offering a unique riverside experience for the Beccles community and visitors alike.
History
Originally constructed in 1959, the Lido was saved from closure, restored then re-opened in 2010 by BLL. Since its re-opening, it has become a much-valued recreational space and tourist attraction at the heart of the Town.
Facilities & Events
The site features a 30 x 15-metre heated main pool alongside a separate toddler pool and paddling pool, making it suitable for all age groups. Lane swimming is available daily; with swim and fun sessions during weekends and holidays in the Summer, with a variety of features including a springboard, water slide, inflatable aquarun (subject to timetable), children’s play equipment and outdoor gym apparatus.
The pool is maintained at a comfortable 28°C from April to October. During the winter months, from November to March, chill swimming is available, heated to 15°C.
The Lido grounds include paved and grassy areas with ample space for sunbathing, relaxing, or enjoying a picnic. Facilities include picnic tables, sun loungers, chairs and all-weather covered seating areas. The on-site café serves a selection of hot and cold meals, snacks, ice creams, hot and cold drinks, with a Fairtrade policy from local suppliers.
Canoe, Kayak and Paddleboad hire is also available for adventures along the River Waveney.
The Lido hosts a number of exciting sporting events to particpate in or spectate at throughout the year, including the annual Beccles Triathlon Festival, a River Waveney Wild Swim, and various endurance swimming events.
Access
Accessibility is a priority, with excellent facilities for disabled swimmers.
Visitors arriving by boat will find moorings adjacent to the site, and those travelling by car can use the small car park on site or make use of the extensive public parking available in the town. The Lido is also accessible via public transport by bus or train and has secure bicycle racks for cyclists.
